God's Grace

Dear Family of God,

What is grace? How did he merit grace for us?

He is so patient with us and wants us all to be in Heaven with him. He patiently calls and waits for each one of us to answer his call to repentance and holiness, to intimate relationship with Him. Sometimes we feel that God is not fair in his dealings with each one of us. We compare ourselves with others just like the early workers in the vineyard who complained God’s seemingly unfair wages to all the workers.

God does not deal with us “fairly” and it is a good thing! We should be thankful God does not give us what we deserve. The parable this Sunday tells us that our Heavenly reward is not something we earn, but rather a free gift. God has made His rewards available to all through Faith in Christ Jesus. Indeed, as Isaiah says from our first reading: “As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts” (Is. 55:9). It is in the context of forgiveness and mercy that God is far from us, not about having some understanding about him.

Heaven is not a personal reward it is a gift to us by God; our good works help us to be assured of that reward and help others to desire it. Our life itself is a gift from God and that is why many Saints will tell us it is all about grace. We make ourselves ready to receive it and help other do the same, for God is always willing to give to all but we too should be willing to receive them. Grace is an "undeserved love" that God has shown us through the death and Resurrection of His only Son Jesus Christ. “For it is all for your sake, so that grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving to the glory of God “(2Cor. 4:15).

May the Blessed Mother help us all to show our gratefulness for this great gift of Jesus in the Eucharist, by adoring him and allowing him to love us.
