Find True Happiness

by Fr. Jess Ty  |  02/01/2026  |  Weekly Reflection

Dear Family of God,

Do you know where and how to find true joy in life? Our readings this weekend teaches us how and where to find true happiness. God is the source of true happiness.

Outside of God, we cannot be truly happy. Money, power, prestige, or any material things or person for that matter, cannot fully satisfy us. Only God can ultimately make us happy.

As Saint Augustine said, “God made our hearts for Himself, and our heart is restless until it rest in God.” What our heart truly long for is to be union with the inexhaustible source of good, beauty, and truth, that is, God.

How do we reach a certain level of union with God? Only in God’s Grace. As Saint Paul said, “It is due to Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification and redemption.” But He needs our cooperation. On our part we need to “seek humility”, as our first reading teaches us. One sign that we seek humility is that we “speak no lies”, we are not deceitful. On the flip side, we try to accept the truth of who we are in the presence of God our Father and Creator. In His mercy, He created us; we are not responsible of our own existence. God gives us life and invites us to live with Him, to follow His commandment or “observe His law” so that in the end we will be with Him forever in Heaven.

In short, to live with God, to abide with Him is to live in Love for He is love; to live with His standard which we call beatitudes. As his disciples we must live according to his standard and not of the world. We imitate Jesus who put others first, self-sacrificed for others rather than self-serving himself. Selflessness and not selfishness. Selfishness leads us to emptiness or loneliness.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph intercede for us all.

Yours in Christ through Mary Immaculate.
