Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
by Fr. Jess Ty | 04/20/2025 | Weekly ReflectionDear Family of God,
Why is resurrection so important?
According to Dr. Peter Kreeft, from his book, “Food for the Soul”, there are three reasons: First, because the Resurrection means that Jesus is still alive and really present and really doing things—first of all saving souls. We can’t be saved by a dead Savior!
Our Easter confession is not just about the past but also the present: it is not just that “Christ rose” but that “Christ is Risen.” He is available now, transforming souls and lives really present and given to us in the Eucharist. He is acting through his priests effecting the grace in every Sacrament validly celebrated by the proper Minister.
The second reason is that resurrection is the event that proves everything in the Christian religion. The reason we believe everything we believe is not the teaching but the Teacher—Jesus Himself. And the resurrection proves his Divine Identity and His Infallible Authority. For no mere man can raise himself from the dead. The third reason is that resurrection gives us hope. We lose many things in life, but we apparently lose everything in death. Nothing seems to be stronger than death. But Jesus is. St. Paul says in 1Corinthians 15 that if Jesus did not really rise from the dead, we have no hope, we are pitied, we are liars, and everything else in our faith is vain and worthless. He says, “if for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all.” (1Cor. 15:19). (pages 159-160).
The of our Jubilee year is “Pilgrims of hope”, we can have hope because Jesus is risen, he helps us on our journey towards heaven.
Jesus is Risen, He is Risen, Indeed!
Happy Resurrection Day!
Yours in Christ through Mary Immaculate.
