22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
by Fr. Jess Ty | 08/31/2025 | Weekly ReflectionDear Family of God,
Jesus teaches us in our Gospel this weekend: “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
The wise author of the Book of Sirach understands the value of humility and notes that it is the way to “find favor with God.”
He said, “My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.”
A Philosopher Bertrand Russell said: “Every man would like to be God if it were possible; some few find it difficult the impossibility.” Because of original sin we have this tendency to ignore God and even to compete with Him instead of respecting Him and thanking Him for His many blessings He bestowed upon us.
That is why the most neglected commandments of God are the first three, resulting in idolatry, blasphemy and profaning the Lord’s Day, Sundays, and Holidays of Obligation. If we cannot obey the first three, then we don’t have the power to fulfill the rest of His commandments. “By blasphemy the sinner curses Jesus to His Face, attacks Him publicly, nullifies His redemption, and pronounces his own judgement and condemnation.”
We need to repair the damage because of these sins directly against God by having a devotion to the Eucharist, his Sacred Heart, the Rosary and to the Holy Face of Jesus. And then be prepared to see God face to face. “I will be filled with overflowing joy with Thy Face, because without Thy Face there would not be joy for us.” St Augustine.
May Our Lady of Joy help us all to be meek and humble of heart like Jesus.
