5th Sunday of Easter

Dear Family of God,

This weekend we will be reminded by Jesus remain in Him and we can do nothing without Him, like a branch that withers when cut from the vine. So, how do we remain in Him?

How do we remain in Jesus? St. John has the answer: “Those who keep His Commandments remain in Him, and He in them, and the way we know that He remains in us is from the Spirit, He gave us.” To remain in Jesus is to keep His Commandments, “and His Commandments is this: we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as He commanded us.”

To believe in Jesus’ name and to love one another are two elements that characterized the interior life of a living branch of follower of Jesus. Actually, here St. John is teaching the same thing that Jesus taught when He was asked about the greatest commandment. The first is to love God above all things and the second one is to love your neighbor. Without these two loves animating the inner life of the branch, it withers.

May our Lady of Joy intercede for all of us to love God above all and remain with Him forever.

Yours in Christ through Mary Immaculate,

Fr. Jess Ty
