Music Ministry

The mission of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Joy is to encourage the “full, conscious and active participation” of our parish family by uniting with them in sacred song.

We are made up of vocalists, instrumentalists and music enthusiasts who desire to serve the Lord and our own community by lending our talents to the celebration of Holy Mass. New members will be welcomed with love and appreciation. Currently, these opportunities are available:

Traditional Choir

The Choir sings at the 9:00 am Sunday Mass and special liturgies such as the Triduum, and rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm. All ages from high school on up are welcome; no audition is required. We learn music from all styles and time periods, mostly in 4-part harmony. Some of our members are present all year; others sing with us when they are in town for the season. All choirs receive .mp3 files of the music each week.

Contemporary Choir

This group sings in 3-part harmony at the Saturday evening Mass in a more upbeat, contemporary style. Rehearsal is Monday evenings 7:00-8:00 pm. Singers, guitarists and other instrumentalists are welcome.

Children's Choir

During the school year, young people in grades 2-8 can be heard practicing in the parish hall from 10:00-10:45 am on Sunday mornings. We lead music at the 11:00 Mass every 1st Sunday of the month.

Cantors and Psalmists

This ministry involves leaders of song at liturgies other than the 9:00 am Sunday or 5:00 pm Saturday Masses. I work with cantors and psalmists in individual sessions throughout the week in order to prepare them to confidently proclaim scripture and help the assembly to sing.

Instrumentalists

Those who play a musical instrument are encouraged to add beauty to our liturgies by playing at Mass. I will write parts for your instrument appropriate to your ability level, and will help you prepare, if you wish. You can choose the liturgy that is most convenient for your schedule.
