Learn the Faith... to Pass on the Faith

A few weeks ago, I was in a home improvement store (that rhymes with "Foam Sleep Show") looking for some outlet covers and I forgot that every solitary time I walk in this place, the staff seem to hide from me before eventually sending out the "new one" who doesn't know where anything is. I searched for another few minutes before leaving and heading to an Ace Hardware (I recieved no free lightbulbs for this plug) where the peope actully walk up to you and know where evrythign is.

I don’t think I’ll go back. I’m not a big fan of asking guidance from someone as clueless as myself.

This Sunday’s reading begins with Jesus asking a question: “Can a blind person guide a blind person?”

Our Church NEEDS people who are continuing to learn the Faith... to pass on the Faith. To family members. To waiters and baristas. To coworkers. And even to the children of our parish.

Our Lady of Joy NEEDS more catechists (religious education teachers) for Wednesday nights (5:30-7) next year. Now— before you go self-disqualifying—know that we will be providing optional single-session courses on classroom management (maintaining control over behavior, proper consequences, etc) and lesson plan execution (what needs to be taught and how to incorporate your most natural style into it) for all volunteers.

If you are interested in seeing if you might be a fit, please reach out to the email at the bottom of this column. You aren’t committing to anything beyond a conversation.

So I beg of you, have the conversation. We are blessed with many children at Our Lady of Joy—and the numbers seem to grow every year. But we need help to pass on the Faith.

We have a few amazing catechists already, but they need backup if we are going to take our children’s programming to another level next year.

And you won’t be an example of the blind leading the blind. You will be equipped with the training and the lesson plans.

If only you are willing...
