“The Lord Has Done Great Things for Us, We Are Filled With Joy.”

This weekend’s Psalm says, “The Lord has done great things for us, we are filled with joy.” This is indeed true of our parish.

I have many relatives who faithfully attend their local parish. Their parish priest does all he is able to hold down the ship of two rural parishes with the help of a secretary, less than a handful of part-time employees, and a core of well-meaning volunteers. They do what they can to maintain quality liturgies every Sunday and weekdays - if and when possible. They make sure babies are baptized and the Lenten Fish Fry raises a few dollars. All other sacraments are celebrated and funerals bring the town together.

There is simple beauty in this. The Lord is present in His Church and in His sacraments to be sure. Yet, we the people of Our Lady of Joy should be filled with joy. The Lord has done great things for us!

We have had amazing Catholic speakers travel to OUR PARISH over the past decade. Speakers like the former host of Catholic Answers (Patrick Coffin), a preeminent voice in Marian consecration (Fr. Michael Gaitley), and one of the most dynamic deacons in our Church (Dc. Harold Burke- Sivers).

Over the next two days, we will be blessed yet again. Patrick Madrid has sold over a million copies and The Patrick Madrid Show (found on Relevant Radio) plays on over 190 stations across the country. But he is more than a prolific writer and radio host, he is a prolific Catholic mind.

He will be leading our parish - along with anyone you bring along - in our free Lenten Parish Retreat over the next two nights - December 6th and 7th - beginning at 6:30PM in the church.

Please don’t allow yourself to get comfy on your couch and miss this opportunity. Don’t take for granted what is happening at your parish. Don’t let Monday and Tuesday become just another pair of weeknights you forget in less than a month.

I sincerely hope to see you there. It will be a blessing.
