Because He Lives

St. Paul says in Romans 5:10, “If, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life.” The CCC #654 explains this further: “The Paschal mystery has two aspects: by His death, Christ liberates us from sin; by His Resurrection, He opens for us the way to a new life. This new life is above all justification that reinstates us in God’s grace, “so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”

A long time ago, I saw a movie, and, in that movie, a man said this to his wife, “There can be no life without you.” It is the most touching statement about human love I have ever heard. There can be no life without you!

One of the most difficult part of losing a spouse especially if you have lived together for like forty years is the fact that you also lose your enthusiasm for life. The Apostles felt the same way when Christ was put to death on the cross.

Christ’s death was a big set-back for the Apostles. They felt like they’ve lost everything. They lost their hope, their joy, the love of their life, their livelihood, their popularity, and their sense of direction. They all felt it was over. Life can never be the same again. But when Christ rose from the dead, their sadness and despair ended. For the Apostles, Christ’s Resurrection was not just a new beginning but a transformation. Christ’s Resurrection impacted the Apostles with the courage to live beyond their disappointments, doubts and fears. Christ Resurrection from the dead made the Apostles to believe that life is worth living no matter what.

If we are truly in love with Christ, we will have the same confidence as the Apostles. My life is worth living because He lives. I will continue to sing for joy no matter the challenges in my life. I will go on enjoying the best life can offer no matter the troubles in my life. I will go on living the faith no matter the obstacles or discouragement I face. My life is worth living because He lives!

Christ’s Resurrection not only gives you hope for the future; it gives you hope to handle your challenges right now. So, when life seems too tough that you begin to lose your enthusiasm for life, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow. When your health seems not to be improving the way you want, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow. When your finances seem to be getting tight and you are afraid you can’t take care of your responsibilities, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow. When the world seems to be up-side down and you feel like losing your hope and joy, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow. When you feel so torn apart because of scars from your previous marriage, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow. When you feel the pain of abuse or betrayal from people you trust, remind yourself that because He lives you can face today and tomorrow.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, here is my special prayer for you tonight, that the joy of Resurrection will lift you from sadness to peace, from loneliness to happiness, from weakness to strength and from despair to hope. Amen! Because He lives, we can face tomorrow!
