The Truth

Dear Family of God,

How do we know the truth? It is either by Human Reason or Divine Revelation (Faith) or both, by reason and faith.

How are we certain it is the truth? When it corresponds to reality. We are not acting in truth if we use a knife as screw driver. Both the knife and the screw will be ruined.

Jesus asked: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” This experience of trying to identify Jesus by human reason alone can be wrong. These people are living with Jesus, but they missed knowing who He is. This teaching is clearly telling us that we need a guide to know who really Jesus is.

Then Jesus asked the same question to those who were close to Him. Peter, inspired by the Father, said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” The apostles led by Peter, needed the Divine Revelation in order to know the truth and proclaim the truth to all.

To guide us all to truth, God gives us the Church with her Teaching Authority, the Bible, and the Sacred Tradition. Jesus told Peter, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build MY CHURCH (not Churches), and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

We all need a guide to reach our destination, heaven. Let us be certain who to listen to, for there are many voices in the world. Let us heed our true Shepherd and his successors for we know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He alone can set us truly free.

May the Mary Immaculate, queen of Apostles, intercede for us always.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Jess Ty
