Voice of God

In just a few weeks, our parish will be blessed with a powerful Advent Parish Mission with Gina Bauer.

While she is a nationally-recognized speaker and a truly gifted communicator, I recognize that many of you have never heard of her. (Her bio is on the next page in the advertisement for the event, but that isn’t my point.)

Some of you might choose to stay home because you’ve never heard her speak and that will be a shame. You will have missed a great opportunity to increase your faith.

Sadly, we miss these opportunities all the time. We find ourselves in conversations with loved ones, but we are distracted.

We find ourselves talking with coworkers, but we are crafting a response instead of actually listening. We dismiss the wisdom embedded in the words of someone we consider too young, underqualified, inexperienced, or unintelligent.

We miss the Voice of God who is trying, through any means possible, to get through to us.

As we near the start of this Advent, we should all resolve to listen for the Voice of God, no matter the vessel he might use. Granted, this takes prayer followed by proper discernment. Listen to just anything and your mind becomes an untethered kite in a hurricane.

So, make an extra effort to join us for the Advent Mission (details on the next page), get to daily Mass, the Adoration Chapel, confession, a Scripture study, a small Christian Community gathering, a men’s group, a lady’s group, a Marian group, a church history class, a parent night, or any of the plethora of opportunities available to you.

God wants for you to hear His voice.

God longs for you to do His will.

God desires for this Advent to be more life-changing than any Advent before it.

God made you for such a time as this.
