Several years ago, Our Lady of Joy decided to become a
Stewardship Parish. One significant result of this decision
was to earmark 10% of plate collections as outreach funds
and to establish a Social Outreach Committee to oversee
these funds.
The Social Outreach Committee identifies, evaluates and
provides assistance, where possible, to Catholic
Organizations serving the needy within the Diocese of
Phoenix. Over the years we have provided desperately
needed assistance to a wide variety of worthwhile and very
grateful organizations.
Recent economic pressures have compounded the
challenges faced by poor Parishes and overburdened
Catholic service organizations within our diocese. While
the Charity and Development Appeal (CDA), local and
diocesan St Vincent de Paul Society, and other special
groups are able to provide relief in many of the worst
situations, some needs inevitably remain unaddressed.
Our Outreach Committee searches out these critical unmet
needs, investigates alternatives, and provides assistance
where we can ‘make a difference’ for the largest number of
people.
Our Social Outreach Committee is an example of our
parish-wide commitment to stewardship. Our Parish makes
a real difference in the lives of people. Our Lady of Joy is
truly blessed and has become a blessing to others, thanks to
each of you.
Meetings held, 2nd Monday of each month @ 10:00 am
